For the first time in Australia, salmon lovers will now be able to reach for their favourite fish, and ‘pass’ on some of the salt.

Tassal’s new Salt Reduced Smoked Salmon comes with 60 per cent reduced salt. It is an, environmentally responsible and healthy alternative for the growing number of Australians who want or need to be mindful of their sodium intake, which can contribute to high blood pressure and increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

As more and more Australian grocery buyers check for sodium content as diligently as they would carbohydrate or fat levels, most of us now consume about 10g of salt daily (daily recommended intake 1.15-2.3g).

Tassal’s new product still retains all the original goodness that makes salmon one of nature’s superfoods, full of Omega-3, protein, vitamins A, D, E, B-carotene, minerals, zinc, iron, copper, manganese, selenium, calcium, phosphorus and potassium.

Tassal spokesperson Caroline Hounsell says the new product, available in salmon slices, means there is no end to creativity in the kitchen.

“The salmon slices are all ready to go, making it so easy to use in a pasta sauce, quiches, frittatas, savoury muffins, over eggs or quickly into some wraps for the kids’ school lunch.

“The beauty of this product is that we may have reduced the salt, but we haven’t taken away the delicious salmon flavour. We just want to look after all salmon lovers, be they salt conscious or otherwise,” said Hounsell.
